Code-verification techniques for hypersonic reacting flows in thermochemical nonequilibrium

چکیده
The study of hypersonic flows and their underlying aerothermochemical reactions is particularly important in the design analysis vehicles exiting reentering Earth's atmosphere. Computational physics codes can be employed to simulate these phenomena; however, verification necessary certify credibility. To date, few approaches have been presented for verifying that flows, especially reacting thermochemical nonequilibrium. In this paper, we present our code-verification techniques spatial accuracy source term We demonstrate effectiveness on Sandia Parallel Aerodynamics Reentry Code (SPARC).

Thermochemical Nonequilibrium in Rapidly Expanding Flows of High-Temperature Air
• This paper describes a computational study of the thermal and chemical nonequilibrium occuring in a rapidly expanding flow of high-temperature air transported as a free jet from an orifice into lowdensity stationary air. Translational, rotational, vibrational and electron temperatures are treated separately, and in particular the vibrational temperatures are individually treated; a multi-vibr...
متن کاملSubgrid-scale model for the temperature fluctuations in reacting hypersonic turbulent flows
A direct numerical simulation ~DNS! database is used to develop a model of subgrid-scale temperature fluctuations for use in large-eddy simulations of turbulent, reacting hypersonic flows. The proposed model uses a probability density representation of the temperature fluctuations. The DNS database reveals a physically consistent relation between the resolved-scale flow conditions that may be u...
متن کاملMultiscale Part-Spectrum k-Distribution Database for Atomic Radiation in Hypersonic Nonequilibrium Flows
An accurate and compact part-spectrum k-distribution database has been developed for the two most important radiating species N and O encountered in hypersonic nonequilibrium flows. The database allows users to calculate the desired full-spectrum k-distributions through look-up and interpolation, providing an efficient means to perform radiative transfer calculations. A detailed methodology of ...

متن کاملMulti-scale k-distribution model for gas mixtures in hypersonic nonequilibrium flows
A k-distribution model is presented for gas mixtures in thermodynamic nonequilibrium, containing strongly radiating atomic species N and O together with molecular species of N2, N2 , NO and O2. In the VUV range of the spectrum there is strong absorption of atomic radiation by bands of N2. For this spectral range, a multi-scale model is presented, where RTEs are solved separately for each emitti...
